[Last Word on Sports] - Veteran Outfield Addition Off to a Red Hot Start for the Mets

has gotten off to a fast start for the New York Mets. He was acquired from the Chicago White Sox in an that sent to the South Side. So far in 13 games, he has a slash line of .326/.463/.465, with two home runs and seven RBI to go along with it. As of April 10th, he is leading the league with that .463 on-base percentage. He is fitting in very well with this lineup, and the most important thing is that he is healthy. Luis Robert Jr. Off To a Fiery Start With The Mets Is This Start Sustainable for Robert? There is one concern that does come when a player has a huge start like this. That concern, especially for a player like Robert, would be if this is sustainable for a full season. In the past, Robert has had monster seasons, but he has also had many injury-riddled seasons. When he was with the Chicago White Sox, he only had one season in which he played more than 110 games. That season, of course, was his only All-Star season in which he finished in the top 15 in MVP voting. In that season, which was 2023, he finished with 38 homers, 80 RBI, and a slash line of .264/.315/.542. The Mets would love to see a stat line like this from Robert this season. A healthy Luis Robert Jr. could be one of the better offensive CF in baseball. His 2nd HR of the year goes a long way in some cold NY weather 412 ft. 110 mph EV 29° LA Only a 25.5% chase and a whopping 21.7% BB so far this year 👀 — Baseball Unstitched (@BaseUnstitched) Mets Will Need Robert to Continue This Hot Start It seems as if Robert will be a huge piece for this Mets lineup to rely on. With the from guys like and , and the to , guys like will need to pick up the slack. The Mets’ offense has been very inconsistent to start the season. After scoring 24 runs against the San Francisco Giants in the last three games of that four-game series, the Mets came home and put up a pathetic seven total runs against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Robert hasn’t been the issue, though, as he had a home run in the D-backs series. His other homer was a against the Pittsburgh Pirates, with the Mets winning 4-2 after 11 innings. Will Robert’s Health Be an Issue? As stated previously, Robert’s health can be an issue for him at times, and it will determine if he can have that big year the Mets need out of him. The Mets don’t want to see this hot start go to waste. At just 28 years old, Robert still has the potential to be a multi-time All-Star. He has a bright future ahead of him as long as he stays on the field. A former Gold Glove winner, he has shown that he is not just great with the bat, but also a solid defender. It is promising to see what he has done so far in his first season with the Mets. Robert will be a crucial player for this team that is looking to get back to the postseason after a catastrophic collapse in 2025. Main Photo Credit: © Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images
