WARNING: BYU Football Being IGNORED as Big 12 Contenders? Kalani Sitake's Team Will Make a Statement

Fri, 02 Oct 2026 07:00:00 GMT

BYU football prepares for a defining moment as they battle the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, looking to reignite national conversation around their Big 12 Conference contender status. Jake Hatch argues this is a critical week for BYU, who have flown under the radar after their early bye week and now face questions about whether they can keep pace with rivals like Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and an in-form Utah. The spotlight is on BYU’s recent accomplishments—an impressive 26-4 record over their last 30 games and top marks against the spread in college football—as they seek their third-ever win at Amon G. Carter Stadium and aim to put the Big 12 on notice: the road to the championship still runs through Provo.

Key strategies identified for BYU’s success include jump-starting their ground game with LJ Martin and other running backs, demanding a balanced offensive attack from Aaron Roderick, and playing mistake-free football by winning the turnover margin. Jake spotlights the need for the BYU defense—stacked with experience and ball-hawking ability—to dominate from opening kickoff to the final whistle, especially after uneven late-game play against Colorado State. Will the BYU Cougars maintain their elite pace and disrupt a TCU squad eager to make a statement behind quarterback Jaden Craig? Will they prove their mettle in a potentially rain-soaked, hostile environment?

Special guest Therrian "Tre" Alexander III provides a player’s perspective on the locker room mindset, sharing stories from the bye week, including his first-ever hunting trip and how getting away from the grind offered much-needed energy. Tre addresses the significance of road games in Texas, the rivalry between Georgia and Texas high school football, and how the team responds to antagonistic fan behavior—including the infamous chants encountered at places like Colorado State and possibly TCU. He also breaks down the matchup with TCU’s quarterback and star receiver Jordan Dwyer, and dishes about the close dynamic with fellow defensive back Evan Johnson, crediting their brotherhood for BYU’s confident secondary.

A lively mailbag rounds out the show, answering burning questions about Legend Glasker’s expanding role, the right tackle battle between Bott Mulitalo and Siosiua Latu-Finau, the evolving safety position with Tommy Prassas and Jaren Pula, and the excitement over a possible College GameDay return for the upcoming Notre Dame clash. Jake also reflects on the personal impact of his expanded podcast role, gaining family time after years in radio.

Don’t miss this comprehensive preview and in-depth analysis as BYU looks to deliver a statement win and reset expectations across the Big 12.

BYU Basketball Not Fretting Jaxon Kohler Eligiblity Status & House Settlement Has Doled Out Billions | Listener Q&A Session

Jake Hatch, Kalani Sitake, Bear Bachmeier, Greg Sankey, Brett Yormark — Thu, 01 Oct 2026 21:30:00 GMT

Welcome into another edition of Locked On Cougars, hosted by Jake Hatch! We are shifting our focus to the hardwood today as the BYU basketball program officially drops its 2026-27 roster. While the excitement surrounding head coach Kevin Young's squad is palpable, the biggest storyline centers around Jaxon Kohler. We break down what having the talented big man on the roster means for the Cougars, even as his ultimate on-court eligibility hangs in the balance amidst an ongoing legal battle playing out in a California court room.

On today's show, we examine how Kohler’s skill set—including his inside presence and perimeter shooting—could elevate BYU's frontcourt in a rugged Big 12 conference, and what the timeline looks like for a final resolution on his status.

From there, we zoom out to the macro landscape of college athletics as we navigate Year 1 of the landmark House settlement era. We look at the numbers surrounding institutional revenue sharing, discussing how much money schools have distributed under the cap. We analyze where BYU fits into this financial arms race, whether the Cougars are among the programs pushing right up to the maximum cap limits, and how athletic departments across the country are adjusting to this new economic reality.

Tune in for all the roster analysis, legal updates, and financial breakdowns you need! Make sure to subscribe, rate, and review Locked On Cougars on YouTube or your favorite podcast platform.

CFBKO DraftI am DONE With Zero Big 12 Respect from the AP Poll, National Shows... | College Football Kickoff

Locked On Podcast Network — Thu, 01 Oct 2026 19:00:00 GMT

The Associated Press poll continues to shortchange the Big 12, treating a conference defined by brutal parity and physical trench warfare as an afterthought compared to coastal blue-bloods.

Even when programs like BYU, Texas Tech, and Utah brutalize their early-season schedules and prove their dominance at the line of scrimmage, AP voters stubbornly keep them bottled up outside the top tier. Traditional media biases mean that a powerhouse grinding through a hostile conference gauntlet has to fight twice as hard for national respect as any brand-name program coasting through a soft schedule. When teams like Oklahoma State or Houston secure statement road wins, they are treated as anomalies rather than proof of a deeply competitive league.

The AP voters are addicted to legacy names, routinely penalizing Big 12 squads for the very weekly bloodbath that makes their conference elite. Until the poll fully respects the developmental depth and physical reality of the Heartland, the Big 12 will remain the most under-respected vanguard in college football.

ESPN Just RIPPED BYU, Big 12 For... Not Winning Playoff Games? You Won't Let Us In?

Locked On Podcast Network — Thu, 01 Oct 2026 08:00:00 GMT

For elite programs like BYU and the broader vanguard of the Big 12, the College Football Playoff selection committee's traditional polling behavior has long felt like an institutional bias designed to protect legacy brands at the expense of proven, battle-tested resumes.

Every single autumn, teams operating outside the traditional coastal zip codes are forced to navigate an absolute gauntlet of physical attrition, week-in and week-out trench warfare, and grueling road environments. Yet, when the Tuesday night playoff rankings drop, human voters and committee insiders routinely penalize Big 12 powerhouses for the very parity that makes their conference the most competitive in the country. A single hard-fought loss in a hostile stadium—against a conference opponent that would dismantle mid-tier teams in softer leagues—is magnified under a microscope, while brand-name programs with identical or weaker records get a free pass based on preseason hype.

This persistent undervaluing ignores the analytical models and metrics that consistently prove the depth, roster maturity, and efficiency of teams like the Cougars. Instead of rewarding programs that survive a weekly bloodbath, the committee relies on lazy narrative-driven polling that prioritizes historical blue-blood status over actual on-field execution and strength of schedule.

Until the selection process completely divorces itself from corporate brand preference and fully embraces objective metrics, elite Big 12 contenders will continue to fight an uphill battle just to get the national respect their hard-earned resumes demand.

Will LJ Martin & Bear Bachmeier REWRITE BYU Football HISTORY in TCU Showdown & Blowout Horned Frogs? | Locked On Crossover

Thu, 01 Oct 2026 07:00:00 GMT

BYU football chases a milestone as they travel to Fort Worth, determined to snap a 20-year losing streak against the TCU Horned Frogs in a matchup loaded with Big 12 implications. With running back LJ Martin leading one of college football’s most efficient ground games, can BYU use its veteran offensive line to finally conquer Amon G. Carter Stadium? Quarterback Bear Bachmeier’s improved arm strength and ability to hit deep shots raise questions about whether TCU’s secondary can withstand BYU’s balanced attack, especially with dynamic freshman Legend Glasker already threatening Austin Collie’s freshman receiving records.

Jake Hatch and Darrion Gray break down the key storylines, starting with the potential for a trap game: BYU’s historical struggles in Fort Worth and TCU’s recent players-only meeting set the stage for high emotions. They analyze how weather could impact run-heavy schemes, the significance of BYU’s right tackle Andrew Gentry’s injury, and the battle in the trenches as both teams look to establish dominance up front. Is Kalani Sitake’s defensive line ready for primetime, or can Jeremy Payne and the Horned Frogs finally reignite their struggling run game?

The hosts assess pressure mounting on TCU coach Sonny Dykes following fan frustration over penalty woes, close losses, and a lack of offensive consistency. Does Dykes have the formula to circle the wagons and rally behind quarterback Jaden Craig, who—after transferring from Harvard—has shown flashes of brilliance but struggled with turnovers against Power 4 competition? The debate turns to whether TCU’s defensive front, which excelled at stopping the run against UCF, can contain LJ Martin, or whether Martin will methodically wear down the Horned Frogs for another signature BYU victory.

Key matchups include BYU’s veteran defensive tackles Keanu Tanuvasa, Anisi Purcell, and Justin Kirkland against TCU’s offensive line, the ability of Bear Bachmeier to capitalize on play-action against TCU’s secondary, and whether wide receiver Jordan Dwyer—limited by injury but dangerous on deep balls—can provide the big plays TCU needs. Predictions favor BYU by double digits, but with TCU’s back against the wall and history on their side, could the Horned Frogs stun the Cougars?

Don’t miss this comprehensive, high-stakes preview filled with strategy, star power, and expert analysis from Jake Hatch and Darrion Gray on a contest that could shape the race in the Big 12.
