Caleb Williams For MVP?! Bears Offseason Winners, Losers & BOLD Predictions

Is Caleb Williams a legitimate NFL MVP candidate in 2026? Kay Adams is officially ALL-IN on the Chicago Bears quarterback at +1500 odds after his breakout season under Ben Johnson. 🐻🔥

Haize breaks down why Caleb’s confidence, comfort and command could reach another level during his second season in Ben Johnson’s offense. But can Williams improve his 58.1% completion rate enough to enter the NFL’s elite quarterback conversation?

We also examine the biggest winners and losers from the Bears’ franchise-altering offseason, including Luther Burden III, Ben Johnson, Dennis Allen and Roschon Johnson. Did Chicago give its defense enough help, or is the struggling pass rush still the weakness that could limit a potential Super Bowl run?

Plus, could rookie Logan Jones become Caleb’s long-term center? And are Mike Clay’s projections for Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, Colston Loveland, D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai too conservative for this loaded Bears offense?

🎙️ Hosted by Haize

🐻 Follow Chicago Bears Central: @CHIBearsCentral

🔔 Subscribe for Chicago Bears news, rumors, analysis and year-round coverage!

Podcast Links: https://linktr.ee/ChiBearsCentral

Get at us:

Email: ChicagoBearsCentral@gmail.com

Twitter:@ChiBearsCentral

Phone: ‪(773) 242-9336‬

Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Caleb Williams Quietly Fixed His Biggest Weakness As A Passer And Nobody Noticed

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams had a decent rookie season in 2024, all things considered. Despite horrendous coaching and bad offensive line play, he still finished with over 3500 passing yards with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. Unfortunately, there was a lot of bad buried beneath that stat line. Many focused on his ugly sack rate, getting dropped 68 times, thanks in large part to his bad tendency to hold the ball. That is, without mentioning his poor footwork and over-reliance on scrambling. Yet the biggest and most puzzling issue was something else.

His deep ball.

Williams came into the NFL with one of the strongest arms seen since Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. His accuracy in college had always indicated he could strike down the field with success. Such was not the case in 2024. He missed guys way too often, failing to capitalize on opportunities. Many worried this was a trend he might not be able to reverse. Looking back at his 2025 season, Williams not only stopped the bleeding but also significantly improved throwing down the field.

Caleb Williams deep throw stats

2024 season

2025 season

Attempts

75

73

Completion percentage

26.7%

42.5%

Touchdowns

6

11

Interceptions

5

3

Drops

1

5

Passer rating

59.6

112.0

Summertime Chi is pic.twitter.com/aR7VSiOesR
— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) June 21, 2026

Caleb Williams deserves credit for this.

Part of it was the situation around him. Head coach Ben Johnson did a terrific job cleaning up the offense, installing a system that took pressure off the quarterback. More running the ball. More play action. However, the quarterback dedicated himself to improving his mechanics, learning the necessary fundamentals for deep accuracy. As the video above shows, he used a throwing net meant to constantly test himself with long throws. Once he developed a feel for it, he often carried that over to practice with his receivers.

It also helped that the Bears added weapons capable of making the vertical game more accessible. That wasn’t really the case with Rome Odunze and D.J. Moore in 2024. Once Luther Burden came on board, things began to change. His speed forced defenses to soften their coverages, opening up those windows. Colston Loveland did much the same at tight end, presenting more of a downfield threat than Cole Kmet ever could. Still, much of the credit goes to Williams for hitting his targets more often.

Mind you, it should’ve been even better. Seven passes of 20 yards or more from him last season were dropped.

One must not underestimate the importance of this.

Think about this stat. In 2025, six of the seven quarterbacks who completed at least 40% of their deep passes made the playoffs. The year before, it was eight of the 13. In 2023, it was seven of 12. There is a strong correlation between a quarterback who can hit the long ball with decent regularity and winning football games. Four of the last five Super Bowl winners checked that box. It is a big deal that Caleb Williams has put himself in the discussion. It makes Chicago much more dangerous.

What’s scary is that the Bears are even more equipped to take advantage this season. While they lost Moore to a trade, they added Kalif Raymond and Zavion Thomas at wide receiver. Both are legitimate speed threats who will stretch the field more than ever. If the offensive line continues to hold up well, Williams could hit more deep shots than last year, which is terrifying to think about. Defenses will have no choice but to play deep coverage, and that only benefits Johnson’s ground attack.

Why The Recent Joey Bosa To Chicago Update From ESPN Won’t Solve Anything

The Chicago Bears stepped away from Halas Hall for the next few weeks for summer break. Coaches will make final preparations for training camp. Players will rest their minds and prepare their bodies for the grind to come. There is much work to do if this team wants to build on what it accomplished last season. Part of that could involve one more roster move before camp proper begins. If you polled most Bears fans on what position they hope to see addressed, they would say pass rusher. That is where Joey Bosa comes in.

A former Pro Bowl star for the Chargers, the defensive end spent last season with the Buffalo Bills, helping them reach the divisional round of the playoffs. Now he is a free agent. No team has brought him aboard yet. Some wondered if he might try to join his brother Nick in San Francisco, but that never materialized. ESPN has stepped in, urging the Bears to make the call. While he isn’t the player he was several years ago, he still gives them such depth and insurance at a premium position.

Sign edge rusher Joey Bosa

You’re going to notice a trend in the NFC North, where all four teams could probably use another veteran pass rusher. The Bears got 4.5 sacks out of Austin Booker in 10 games last season, but Dayo Odeyingbo was disappointing with just a single sack in eight games after signing a big contract to come over from Indianapolis.

Bosa had a 12.2% pass rush win rate last season, 26th among qualifying edge rushers, to go along with five sacks for Buffalo. He has played most of his career with his hand on the ground, so he’s probably the best fit for Chicago’s 4-3 base out of the top three available veteran pass rushers.

It’s hard to justify this move.

Bosa was a great player at one point in his career. Probably one of the four or five most dominant pass rushers in the league. Unfortunately, age and injuries have sapped his once dynamic ability. He’s not as explosive as he once was. While still crafty with his moves and plenty strong, it was evident he couldn’t win as often as he used to. If the Bears were to sign him, it would be as a rotational backup behind Montez Sweat and Austin Booker. Would he accept that? Probably not.

Besides, the Bears won’t want to pay his fee. Veteran pass rushers, even those past their prime, can still cost a decent amount of money. Buffalo gave him $12.6 million last season. Chicago doesn’t have anywhere near the cap space to offer something like that. They’d have to restructure other contracts to make it work. Bosa isn’t a good enough player at this stage to justify it.

Ask the simple question. Does signing Joey Bosa make the Bears Super Bowl favorites? If the answer is no (and it is), then this move isn’t worth it.

Joey Bosa is a great pickup for anyone looking for a strong EDGE3. In limited snaps and obvious passing situations, he’s a nightmare.

Some of the most refined hand movement skills out there. https://t.co/pMTKKFnsxz
— Ethan Haas (@ethanshaas) June 19, 2026

Price point will determine this.

If Bosa aims for another nice payday like last year, he won’t find it from Chicago. On the other hand, if he’s just interested in playing and will lower the amount to something reasonable, it might be worth it. Even in his current form, Bosa can be a solid third rusher behind Sweat and Booker. He could also help Shemar Turner continue developing once he returns from his knee injury. Outside of that scenario, the Bears are likely to maintain the status quo at edge rusher for this season.

Maybe they decide to get aggressive at the trade deadline if they’re playing well. Otherwise, they may content themselves with a minor move to add some depth. Somebody who won’t cost anything close to what Joey Bosa would. The unfortunate truth is the team is past the point where they can think about a big name on the free agent market. Cam Jordan was probably the last one who would’ve made sense. Now he’s going back to New Orleans. Chicago will sink or swim with who they have.

These Chicago Bears Are Remarkably Similar To The 2006 Saints, Which Is Both Good And Bad

For some time, I’ve been wondering what team, if any, the 2025 Chicago Bears reminded me of. There were plenty of similarities with notable teams from the past. You had the 2017 Los Angeles Rams when a hotshot young offensive coach (Sean McVay) immediately turned a dismal team around to make the playoffs. You could even go all the way back to 1975 when Ted Marchibroda helped spark a turnaround with the Baltimore Colts by rescuing talented quarterback Bert Jones.

However, when looking at this Bears team in its entirety, there is one example that lines up remarkably well. That is the 2006 New Orleans Saints. We all know the story. A young hotshot coach, Sean Payton, takes over a dismal team fresh off one of its worst seasons. He gets paired with a quarterback who has flashed lots of promise but lingering questions about him in Drew Brees. Then, through a mixture of offensive firepower and timely big plays on defense and special teams, they fostered a remarkable turnaround that got them to the playoffs.

The Chicago Bears share much in common with those Saints.

How they came together is one. Head coach Ben Johnson, like Payton, arrived in Chicago following one of the team’s worst seasons. He was a highly touted offensive wizard surrounded by questions on if he had the leadership necessary to turn around such a listless organization. He paired with Caleb Williams, who, like Brees, had loads of talent but lingering concerns about his true long-term viability. Most expected a bumpy road ahead that first season. What followed was a magical run to 11-6 and a division title, reigniting a dormant fanbase.

When you look at the actual metrics, the parallels between the two teams are kind of spooky. Offensively, they’re almost identical in yardage and touchdown passes, were both top 10 in points scored, and each won their playoff opener at home with a comeback.

Metric

2006 New Orleans Saints

2025 Chicago Bears

Record

10–6 (NFC South Champions)

11–6 (Wild Card)

Total Offense

6,264 yards

6,282 yards

Points Scored Rank

5th in NFL

9th in NFL

Points Allowed Rank

13th in NFL

23rd in NFL

Passing Offense

4,503 yards

3,942 yards

Rushing Offense

1,761 yards

2,456 yards

Turnover Differential

-4

+22

Starting QB

Drew Brees (26 TD / 11 INT)

Caleb Williams (27 TD / 7 INT)

Playoff Result

Lost NFC Championship (vs. CHI)

Lost Wild Card Round (vs. LAR)

The highest-graded play by any QB this weekend:

Caleb Williams fourth down conversion pic.twitter.com/lniH0V76ZH
— PFF (@PFF) January 12, 2026

Why this comparison is great news…….and why it’s not.

Following that 2006 season was the start of a truly special run for the Saints. Payton and Brees formed the most lethal coach-quarterback combination in football, putting up ungodly numbers and carrying the organization to its greatest stretch of success in its history. Brees would cement himself as a no-doubt Hall of Famer, setting multiple passing records, and Payton established himself as one of the great offensive minds of his generation. Together, they would bring a Super Bowl championship to New Orleans.

Bears fans have to love that, right? There was one problem. It took the Saints longer than they’d care to admit to get there. Despite getting so close in 2006, it ended up taking them another three years to finally reach the big game in 2009. This was because the next two seasons were characterized by defensive issues. It ranked 26th in 2007 and 23rd in 2008. New Orleans missed the playoffs both years despite excellent offensive performance. It took a while for them to build up that side of the ball with a mixture of fortunate draft hits (Roman Harper and Tracy Porter), savvy trades (Jonathan Vilma), and one big free agent hit (Darren Sharper).

This is the same problem the Bears face. Their defense was not good last season, despite leading the NFL in takeaways. Several clear roster holes remain unresolved. Holes that are likely not getting fixed this year. That means a defensive jump, if there is one, will be minor at best. That means, like the Saints, the offense will have to carry the load because it may take time for this problem to resolve. The project is far from finished.

NFL Analyst Is ALL-IN On The Bears Offense… Is Chicago About To EXPLODE?

The Chicago Bears offense is getting serious national attention heading into the 2026 NFL season, and NFL Network analyst Manti Te’o is all-in on what Ben Johnson is building in Chicago. With Caleb Williams entering a massive Year 3, a dangerous run game led by D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai, and young weapons like Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, Colston Loveland, and rookie Zavion Thomas, the Bears may have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.

Haize breaks down why Ben Johnson’s run game gives the Bears offense its foundation, why Zavion Thomas is making a real argument to become WR3, and how Chicago can replace the production and versatility lost after trading DJ Moore. Plus, Haize dives into Bears fan voicemails on the defense, takeaways, pass rush concerns, Caleb Williams’ completion percentage, Ryan Poles’ edge rusher decisions, and why Rome Odunze may be getting overlooked by Bears fans.

Are the Bears ready to become an elite offense? Can Zavion Thomas force his way into a major role? And does the defense have enough functional performance beyond takeaways to help Chicago become a true contender?

Tap in with Chicago Bears Central for the full breakdown. 🐻⬇️

Podcast Links: https://linktr.ee/ChiBearsCentral

Get at us:

Email: ChicagoBearsCentral@gmail.com

Twitter:@ChiBearsCentral

Phone: ‪(773) 242-9336‬

Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

ESPN Calls Bears Overrated And Predicts A Huge Stepback | $25 million Extension For Darnell Wright?

The Chicago Bears are coming off an 11-win season, an NFC North title, and a divisional playoff appearance in Ben Johnson’s first year as head coach — but not everyone is convinced Chicago improved enough this offseason. 👀

On today’s episode of Chicago Bears Central, Haize reacts to ESPN naming the Bears among the least-improved teams heading into the 2026 NFL season and breaks down why the defense remains the biggest question mark. After losing veteran talent and failing to make a major defensive line addition, can the Bears rely on better health, internal development, and Dennis Allen’s adjustments to avoid regression?

Then, Haize dives into why the Bears offense could become one of the most explosive units in the NFL. Colston Loveland says the offense is flowing smoother, players are in the right spots, and there is still more to unlock in Year 2 under Ben Johnson. With Caleb Williams, Loveland, Luther Burden III, Rome Odunze, Kyle Monangai, and a loaded group of weapons, Chicago’s offense may be ready to take another major leap. 🔥

Plus, Caleb Williams is making completion percentage his biggest focus after throwing for a franchise-record 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns but completing just 58.1% of his passes last season. If Caleb gets that number closer to Ben Johnson’s 70% goal, could the Bears become the highest-scoring offense in the NFL?

Haize also discusses the looming Darnell Wright contract extension, why locking down an All-Pro caliber right tackle is critical for the future of the franchise, and what a massive deal could look like.

Topics include:

🐻 Are the Bears really one of the least-improved teams in the NFL?

⚠️ Why Chicago’s defense could determine the 2026 season

🔥 Colston Loveland explains why the Bears offense is ready to explode

🎯 Caleb Williams focuses on completion percentage and offensive efficiency

💰 Darnell Wright extension watch begins

🏈 Can Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams carry Chicago into true contender status?

Subscribe to Chicago Bears Central for daily Chicago Bears news, rumors, analysis, reactions, and fan-first breakdowns hosted by Haize.

Podcast Links: https://linktr.ee/ChiBearsCentral

Get at us:

Email: ChicagoBearsCentral@gmail.com

Twitter:@ChiBearsCentral

Phone: ‪(773) 242-9336‬

Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
