[Hoops Wire] - Bulls’ Josh Giddey undergoes ankle procedure, expected back by camp

Bulls guard Josh Giddey took care of something that’s been lingering. Namely, Giddey underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure on his right ankle, the team announced. The timeline is straightforward. About three months. That puts him back on the court around mid-August and on track for training camp. This didn’t come out of nowhere.
[Bleacher Nation] - Will the Bulls’ Lottery Luck Hurt Bryson Graham’s Free Agent Plans?

A great poet once observed that . That sure seems to be the case for our Chicago Bulls, who managed to during the NBA Draft Lottery on Sunday. Adding the opportunity at one of the four alleged blue-chippers in this draft (generally agreed to be BYU small forward AJ Dybantsa, Kansas guard Darryn Peterson, Duke power forward Cameron Boozer, and North Carolina power forward Caleb Wilson represents a terrific roster-building opportunity for new Bulls executive vice president Bryson Graham. Young guards like Darius Acuff, Keaton Wagler (whom predicts will be “the poor man’s Kon Knueppel”), Kingston Flemings and Mikel Brown Jr. are hovering just below that tier. Chicago also has the Nos. 15, 38 and 56 picks at its disposal. Whether he’s committed long-term to turnstile defender Josh Giddey at the point and 2024 No. 11 pick wing Matas Buzelis remains to be seen, although . $90 million man Patrick Williams, of course, is trapped in Chicago for the time being, thanks to that brutal money. Bryson Graham’s Bulls Free Agency Marginally Hampered After Lottery Luck Now the thorn: Keith Smith of Spotrac reports that, by benefit of moving up in the draft, Chicago has lost $4 million in projected cap space this summer. Still, the Bulls should have $54.4 million available — the most in the league, $6.3 million clear of the Los Angeles Lakers and $6.7 million ahead of the Brooklyn Nets. Updated 2026 cap space projections post-Lottery: 1. Bulls: $54.4M (down from $58.4M as a result of moving from #9 to #4 in Lottery) 2. Lakers: $48.1M 3. Nets: $47.7M (up from $44.6M as a result of moving from #3 to #6 in Lottery) 4. Pistons: $26.9M— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) There’s that could be available in this year’s free agent class. Even assuming their rookie draft picks do hit, the Bulls have such a bare cupboard of current young talent that it feels highly unlikely they’ll be inclined to add, say, LeBron James, Austin Reaves, James Harden or Trae Young. Harden and Young have player options. What’s most likely is that Chicago will become a trade hub during the offseason, a resource for rival general managers who’ll be looking to get off their own bad money — and should be willing to part with future draft equity to do so. Missing out on an extra $4 million in cap space would have been a bigger deal for a team that was attempting to win now. For the Bulls, it’s a pretty minimal difference.

[Bleacher Nation] - Bryson Graham Begins Housecleaning, Head Coach Search, DeRozan Talks, and Other Bulls Bullets

Basketball has been fun again. A weird thing to say when the Chicago Bulls aren’t even on the court at the moment. But between the , all the offseason buzz, and now Bryson Graham starting his tenure with the moves he’s already making, things are getting exciting. Also, a couple of former Bulls from the last time we made the playoffs got together to talk about that short-lived run in Chicago. Let’s talk Chicago Bulls offseason hoops. © David Banks-Imagn Images It took less than two weeks after Bryson Graham assumed the role of Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Chicago Bulls to make his first move. With Graham now in place, it was necessary to start building out his front office. But first, Bryson needed to tear down the old wallpaper before putting up his own. It started with Bryson parting ways with Windy City Bulls general manager Josh Malone, as reported by Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune. This appears to be just the beginning, with “more changes and additions potentially on the horizon as he evaluates his existing staff.” As Bryson begins shaping a new staff, two of the most obvious holes to fill are at general manager and head coach, and one of those searches is already underway. In the same report from Julia Poe, it was revealed that Bryson began his head coaching search this week. “He will begin the initial stages of the coaching search this week, which includes requesting permission from teams to interview potential candidates. Graham previously suggested he was open to hiring an up-and-coming coach rather than seeking a veteran with championship experience, meaning the Bulls could look at current assistants on prominent coaching staffs,” While no names have officially been linked yet, Sean Sweeney of the San Antonio Spurs was one of the early names floated around. Staying in Chicago, the hype around the WNBA All-Star Game just took another step up. The WNBA officially unveiled the logo for the 2026 All-Star Game, which was reportedly designed with inspiration from the city’s “legendary six-point star” and Loop-inspired geometry mixed with the Chicago Sky’s signature blue. I can’t lie though, I weirdly see the Overtime logo more than I see Chicago here. What do you think about this logo? — WNBA (@WNBA) And finally, it’s almost poetic that before we fully embark on a new era of Bulls basketball, there has to be some kind of closing chapter to the AKME era. Luckily for us, two of their biggest acquisitions, Lonzo Ball and DeMar DeRozan, sat down together on the “Ball in the Family” podcast, and naturally, they spoke about their time in Chicago. One of the stories that really started making the rounds was how they convinced DeMar to come to Chicago in the first place. DeMar admitted he didn’t even want to join the Bulls if they didn’t have a good point guard. But once Lonzo Ball became a real possibility, that changed everything. “I was hesitant on even going because I’m like they don’t even have a point guard,” said DeRozan. “And [the Bulls] told me the options and Zo was one of them. I’m like, ‘If y’all get Zo, I’ll 100% come.’” While reflecting on the team and their hot start to the 2021 season, when the Bulls held the one seed midway through the year, both players talked about how unstoppable that group felt at the time. “There wasn’t a game we went out and felt like we wasn’t gonna win,” DeRozan said. That Bulls team ended up losing 36 games in the regular season and fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in five games during the first round of the playoffs. Lonzo Ball’s absence played a massive role in how that season unraveled. We saw exactly what that team looked like without a true point guard, and it’s easy to understand why DeRozan didn’t want to come to Chicago without a real playmaker beside him.
[Bleacher Nation] - Bulls Star Josh Giddey Has Ankle Surgery, Out for 3 Months

Chicago Bulls point guard Josh Giddey went under the knife for a right ankle scope, the team . Per the Bulls, the 23-year-old Aussie will resume basketball activities in three months. Chicago projects that Giddey will rejoin the Bulls in time for the beginning of training camp in September. Chicago Bulls point guard Josh Giddey. © Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images Josh Giddey’s Bulls Future Murkier Than Ever? Will Giddey even be with the Bulls by then? Currently wrapping up the first year of a four-season, $100 million contract he inked with previous Bulls president Arturas Karnisovas, Giddey may not be the kind of versatile, two-way player new EVP of basketball operations Bryson Graham explicitly said he prefers. A suggested that Giddey might not be long for the Windy City. In 54 healthy games last season — though Chicago may have been creatively resting him at the end of the year while jockeying for losses — Giddey averaged 17.0 points on .448/.364/.763 shooting splits, 9.1 assists, 8.3 rebounds. His 3-point shooting may actually be legit now. Opposing defenses sagged off him during his first Bulls season, making his 37.8 percent conversion rate from deep on 4.0 triple tries in 2024-25 a bit of a mirage. But this past season, he made 36.4 percent of his 5.2 long range takes. Giddey is clearly talented, but is he good enough to be a starting-caliber point guard on the next contending Bulls team? Kansas Jayhawks guard Darryn Peterson . © Denis Poroy-Imagn Images Chicago possesses the Nos. 4, 15, 38 and 56 picks in what’s supposed to be a stacked 2026 NBA Draft. Generally, NBA pundits believe there are four top prospects available: BYU small forward AJ Dybantsa, Kansas guard Darryn Peterson, Duke power forward Cameron Boozer (son of former two-time All-Star Bulls alum Carlos), and North Carolina power forward Caleb Wilson. Beyond Peterson (should he fall to Chicago), there are plenty of talented lead ball handlers who should be available even at the No. 15. Houston’s Kingston Flemings, Arkansas’ Darius Acuff, Jr. and Illinois’ Keaton Wagler could also be in play with the fourth overall pick as guard options for the Bulls. If Giddey isn’t the Bulls’ point guard of the future, will Graham take a chance on another, younger playmaker next month?
