OwlScoop.com — Thu, 01 Oct 2026 16:00:27 GMT

And we got into plenty of football conversation, too – the Army loss, Saturday’s upcoming road game at USF, and a closer look at why we feel Jaxon Smolik could be getting another shot to reclaim the starting quarterback job.

S12, E8 - Temple’s Toledo collapse sets up must-win Army game

OwlScoop.com — Tue, 22 Sep 2026 12:55:20 GMT

There have been 14 one-point losses in Temple’s history. K.C. Keeler has three of them in his first 15 games as the program’s head coach.

Last Saturday’s setback, a shocking 49-48 overtime loss at Toledo in which the Owls blew a 14-point lead in the last two minutes of regulation, has Temple in a must-win situation this Friday when Army comes to Lincoln Financial Field for a nationally-televised 4 p.m. game on ESPN.

Why, exactly, is Temple playing a 4 p.m. game this Friday, and what does AC/DC have to do with it? Can the Owls slow down an Army team that ran them into the ground last season? Does defensive coordinator Brian L. Smith’s group have it in them to shake off a forgettable game at Toledo?

We answered all those questions on this week’s podcast.

Intro: 0:00 – 2:11

Where does Saturday’s Toledo loss rank in the history of bad Temple losses?: 2:11 – 16:41

OwlScoop.com — Wed, 16 Sep 2026 11:54:26 GMT

The last time Temple played Penn State at Lincoln Financial Field, the Owls sacked Christian Hackenberg 10 times and turned in the program’s first win over the Nittany Lions in 74 years on a memorable day in South Philadelphia. But 11 years later, K.C. Keeler’s Temple team is facing some significant injury challenges along the offensive line and still trying to find its starting quarterback as a 16th-ranked Penn State team under new head coach Matt Campbell comes to the Linc. BONUS EPISODE: Geoff Collins: ‘My biggest regret was leaving’ Temple

OwlScoop.com — Fri, 28 Aug 2026 16:29:39 GMT

Frank Sinatra once sang about having a few regrets. Geoff Collins has them, too.

The biggest, he told OwlScoop.com this week on The Scoop, was departing Temple in 2018 after two successful seasons as the program’s head football coach.

“The best two years of my life,” Collins said, “and my biggest regret was leaving.”

Collins opened up about a story he said he had only previously told his wife, Jennifer. Just before Collins left Temple to take the head coaching job at Georgia Tech, former Temple and NFL head coach Bruce Arians told him not to take it.

“There’s a lot of things that people try to tell you, and a lot of times, they’re right,” Collins said. “And sometimes you listen, sometimes you don’t, and that’s one of those moments.”

Listen to OwlScoop.com’s full interview with Collins on this week’s bonus podcast episode here. Collins talked to OwlScoop Editor John DiCarlo about several topics, including moving on after getting fired at Georgia Tech, returning to Temple last week to spend time with current Owls head coach K.C. Keeler and his staff, memories of coaching future NFL stars like Fletcher Cox and Darius Slay and what's ahead for him in his career.

S12, E4: Let's play two - Jaxon Smolik and Ajani Sheppard could both play in the opener

OwlScoop.com — Thu, 27 Aug 2026 11:45:29 GMT

Temple still has not named a starting quarterback just 10 days ahead of its season opener against Rhode Island, and offensive coordinator Tyler Walker said it’s possible that both Jaxon Smolik and Ajani Sheppard could play. He offered some insight into last Saturday’s scrimmage, and you’ll also hear from Special Teams Coordinator Brian Ginn on this week’s podcast, along with answers to your mailbag questions.

S12, E3 - 97.5 The Fanatic's Ray Dunne joins the show

OwlScoop.com — Fri, 21 Aug 2026 09:00:00 GMT

Ray Dunne joined us on The Scoop this week to talk about his role as the new midday host at 97.5 The Fanatic and his work broadcasting Temple men’s and women’s basketball games. Just four years removed from graduating from Temple’s Klein College of Media and Communication, Dunne has carved out a sports talk radio career in the nation’s fifth-largest media market and was on the air when the news broke of LeBron James signing with the 76ers last month. Dunne shared his expectations for the seasons ahead for Diane Richardson and Adam Fisher and explained why he’s bullish on K.C. Keeler’s coaching and tight end Peter Clarke’s future.

Speaking of Clarke, he was one of five additional players announced by the team Thursday night to join Dante Atton and Colin Chase in earning a single digit, along with linebacker Eric Stuart, running back Sam Brown V, safety Saboor Karriem and center Grayson Mains. We’ll tell you why Keeler still hasn’t named his starting quarterback yet, and we’ll also tell you why the Owls’ cornerback room is turning the corner as the Sept. 5 season opener approaches.

S12, E2: How K.C. Keeler and Clayton Barnes are leading the Owls into the 2026 season

OwlScoop.com — Thu, 13 Aug 2026 13:59:57 GMT

In 33 previous years as a college head coach, K.C. Keeler has never encountered two consecutive losing seasons. Maybe that’s a sign of good things on the horizon for a Temple program that went 5-7 in 2025, Keeler’s first season with the Owls. He, along with his general manager, Clayton Barnes, talked about that and several other topics in their interview with OwlScoop.com for this week’s podcast. They discussed roster management, how they’ll approach their recruitment of the 2027 class, tight end Peter Clarke’s future, the quarterback position and what else they would do to try to improve the sport.

And this week’s mailbag tackles questions about things like the Penn State game, punter Dante Atton and Philadelphia fandom.

S11, E49: Cam Wallace eyes bigger sophomore role

OwlScoop.com — Fri, 24 Jul 2026 09:00:00 GMT

While it was important for head coach Adam Fisher to replenish his roster with nine transfers and an incoming freshman, maintaining some continuity on the roster with a player like rising sophomore guard Cam Wallace was important, too. Wallace, a former start at the Westtown School, played in just 19 games as a true freshman and averaged 2.1 points per game, but a full college offseason in the weight room and a month of workouts with his new teammates have him feeling more confident heading into his sophomore season on North Broad Street. Wallace talked about all of that and much more on this week’s podcast, which also includes part of our interview with class of 2027 Temple verbal commit Jackson Pritts, a 5-star recruit and the nation’s sixth-ranked kicker according to Kohl’s kicking camps.

S11, E48: Sir Issac holds court

OwlScoop.com — Fri, 17 Jul 2026 09:00:00 GMT

What’s in a name? Temple forward Sir Issac Herron had plenty to say about that on this week’s episode of The Scoop.

The 6-foot-10 forward who joined the Owls via the transfer portal from Louisiana Tech talked about the origins of his name, recovering from two injuries, and why he feels better than he ever has as he attempts to build upon last season and improve coach Adam Fisher’s frontcourt.

Herron had some high praise for fellow Temple big man Christian Beam and forwards Edwin Suarez and Baboucarr Njie, and we’ll tell you why you should keep your eyes peeled for another Temple football verbal commitment this week.

S11, E47: Diane Richardson breaks down Temple's roster reset

OwlScoop.com — Fri, 10 Jul 2026 09:00:00 GMT

Temple women’s basketball coach Diane Richardson joined us on The Scoop this week for a deep dive into a roster that includes an even mix of six returnees and six newcomers as the Owls head into the 2026-27 season. Why did Kaylah Turner, Tristen Taylor and Saniyah Craig decide to come back? What could the additions of players like Penn State transfer Shayla Smith and JUCO All-American Myla Benton mean to the Owls’ depth? How is forward Anastasia Bulanova recovering from the knee injury that kept her out last season? Richardson answered all those questions – and many more – on this week’s podcast, including some tidbits about future nonconference schedules that may or may not include Dawn Staley and South Carolina.

We’ll also tell you why you shouldn’t be worried about three recent Temple football decommits, provide some context about the return of men’s hoops center Mohamed Keita, and tell you how head coach Adam Fisher might look to use his last roster spot.

S11, E46: Deuce Drake is ready to bounce back at Temple

OwlScoop.com — Tue, 30 Jun 2026 23:25:36 GMT

Temple’s backcourt is comprised of two point guards head coach Adam Fisher and his staff nearly got prior to last season before circling back and landing them this time around. Former USC guard Jordan Marsh, who joined us earlier this month on The Scoop, is one of them.

The other, former Indiana point guard Deuce Drake, sat down for an interview with us this week to talk about his well-traveled basketball journey that has taken him from Michigan’s Ferndale High School through four college stops and finally to North Broad Street, where he is healthy again after the turf-toe and stress fracture injuries that kept him off the court last season in the Big Ten.

Drake averaged 11.1 points per game and shot nearly 40% from three-point range two seasons ago at Drexel and believes he can surpass those numbers this season en route to having Temple playing meaningful games in March.

S11, E45: Why Baboucarr Njie chose Temple

OwlScoop.com — Thu, 25 Jun 2026 10:00:00 GMT

Temple literally got a courtside view of what Baboucarr Njie could do when the former UTSA wing guard dropped a career-high 25 points on the Owls back in January and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. And now that Njie has signed with Temple out of the transfer portal, head coach Adam Fisher and his staff can gameplan with the 6-foot-6, 185-pound junior instead of having to prepare to play against him. Njie joined us on The Scoop this week to talk about why he signed with Temple and why he believes his versatility, athleticism and shot-blocking ability will be an asset for the Owls this season.

We also have more Temple football recruiting updates for you and will tell you why Peter Clarke should be considered one of the best tight ends in the program’s history.

OwlScoop.com — Wed, 10 Jun 2026 10:00:00 GMT

This week, you’ll hear from Marsh himself in our 1-on-1 interview with the rising senior point guard. After averaging 18.8 points per game at UNC Asheville two seasons ago, Marsh entered the portal and nearly committed to Temple after a visit with the Owls before USC swooped in at the last minute to sign him.

When Marsh hit the portal again after this season, he said he didn’t need to think twice about where he wanted to go.

“I knew exactly where I wanted to be,” Marsh said of Temple.

In addition to hearing from Marsh, you’ll also hear from Keegan Gray-Wyckoff, one of three class of 2027 football players who have announced their verbal commitments to Temple over the past week, and there’s a lot more past, present and future football and hoops talk in the mailbag, too.

Now, after stops at Muhlenberg High School, Arizona Western Junior College and Weber State, the 6-foot-6, 205-pound forward has transferred to Temple with the hope of providing some defense and rebounding to Adam Fisher’s frontcourt. You’ll heart part of our interview with him on this week’s podcast, along with a way-too-early educated guess at the Owls’ starting five and a hint of what’s to come with Temple football’s June recruiting.

After a career that spanned stints in the NFL, XFL and the CFL, former Temple quarterback PJ Walker announced his retirement earlier this month at the age of 31. The Owls’ all-time leading passer joined us on the podcast this week to reminisce about his time on North Broad Street with former head coach Matt Rhule, who later became his NFL head coach with the Carolina Panthers. Walker shared stories about the 2015 win over Penn State, the last-minute drive down at UCF that saved Temple’s season and vaulted the Owls to a 2016 American Conference championship, and the bonds he built with teammates like Jahad Thomas, Robby Anderson and Tyler Matakevich.
