The 2025-2026 UConn Huskies fought all the way to the final game’s final whistle. Their comeback effort fell short against Michigan on Monday night, but they delivered an inspiring performance despite injuries across the starting lineup and a clear size disadvantage.

In this end-of-season episode, we recap the championship game, highlight the keys to the Huskies’ run to Indy, and discuss what it all means for the program’s place among the best in the nation.

We shocked the world, again.

Braylon Mullins hit one of the greatest buzzer beaters in college basketball history, sending Duke packing and putting the Huskies in their third Final Four in four years.

It’s hard to even comprehend how the Huskies came back from a 19-point deficit that looked worse than it sounds. All we know for sure is we’ll remember this forever.

The UConn Huskies are in the Elite Eight for the third time in four years and 14th time as a program, with 13 of those appearances coming since 1990.

Up next, they take on a favored Duke team that’s the tourney’s top overall seed and, as usual, loaded with blue-chippers and NBA Draft prospects.

In this episode, we discuss the Sweet 16 victory over Michigan State, driven by their senior leaders Alex Karaban and Tarris Reed Jr., and how the Huskies match up against the Blue Devils. We also discuss the success story of this season and what it would mean to take down the evil empire one more time.

Had a great convo with Richmond Weaver, host of the SoCon Fast Break podcast. Weaver was a walk-on at Clemson before getting into college coaching. He found himself out of coaching and worked outside of sports for a while before starting to cover local sports in South Carolina.

The SoCon Fast Break (not related) did a great preview with Darren Angell, a former member of the Furman staff, that I definitely recommend you watch.

In our conversation, we discussed Furman’s strengths and top players as well as how they match up against the Huskies. We also covered the key point that Furman might be a better team than its record and seeding suggest, given its youth development and injuries in the middle of the season.

It’s that time of year, folks, to put the regular season and all of its issues in the past and look forward to another year of UConn overachievement in the NCAA Tournament.

But first, Furman, a pesky Southern Conference team that was the six-seed in its conference tournament before winning three straight to punch its ticket to the dance. They have a well-coached team with solid size and shooting, and a stud leading scorer in freshman Alex Wilkins. Bob Richey’s squad also has two experienced big men who are their second- and third-leading scorers.

We talk about this matchup and more in the latest episode of the Fast Break, including the sour taste of the Big East final, the East region bracket, and thoughts on who we would prefer to see in a potential second-round matchup between UCLA or UCF.

Nobody knows who’s actually better between these two teams, but St. John’s captured the league regular-season crown after the Huskies’ upset loss to Marquette.

That New March Feeling

The haters wanted it so bad. They said the UConn Huskies didn’t have the goods because they wanted it to be true, or they were desperate for attention online.

Either way, the haters are wrong, proven to be losers once again. Dan Hurley’s squad shook off the Creighton loss by thumping Villanova and walloping St. John’s before a Senior Day special from Alex Karaban to cement itself as one of the best teams in the country.

In this episode, Aman and Patrick discuss: Acceptable ways to cope with a loss, the rising sense of urgency from Karaban and Tarris Reed Jr., and the team’s trajectory as we get close to the start of postseason play. No Dan Madigan in this episode, but he’s got a great excuse, we promise!

Interview with UConn OC Nunzio Campanile

Last week, I sat down with Nunzio Campanile, the former Rutgers and Syracuse assistant coach who was a longtime success as a HS coach at two of the best programs in New Jersey. He was announced as UConn’s new offensive coordinator in January.

Campanile joins the staff as a newcomer to head coach Jason Candle and his system, but he offers a lot of experience recruiting in the northeast and leading teams or units. At Rutgers, he was quickly thrust into offensive coordinator and interim head coaching duties, and then stayed on with Greg Schiano’s staff after everyone else on the previous one was not retained.

He survived another coaching transition at Syracuse, where he was hired by Dino Babers and stayed under Fran Brown. At UConn, he’s entering another transition situation, but at least it’s not a firing.

In our conversation, Campanile shared the details of his extensive coaching roots, the opportunity ahead for UConn football, and how the staff is working together in the early days of this new era.

Earlier this week, Candle, Campanile, and defensive coordinator Ryan Manalac, who we also interviewed 1-on-1 earlier this month, spoke to the media and held a panel for fans before the St. John’s game in PeoplesBank Arena.

Interview with UConn DC Ryan Manalac

There has been a lot of change for UConn football, to put it lightly. After leading the most successful four-year run in the program’s FBS lifetime, Jim Mora left for Colorado State and opened the door for Toledo’s Jason Candle to become the next Husky head football coach.

It wasn’t just a new coaching staff in Storrs. Over 70 new players have joined the Huskies in the most active portal window ever, plus an all-new class of high school commits. A completely reshaped team will take the field this fall when the season begins. We’ll also have a Spring Game on April 11.

At Storrs Central, where you can find the world’s best coverage of UConn football, we sat down with defensive coordinator Ryan Manalac for his first interview in his new role!

The former walk-on at Cincinnati played for the Bearcats in the heyday of the Big East under Mark Dantonio and Brian Kelly before getting a shot in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills. His defensive coordinator at Cincinnati was Pat Narduzzi, who was also the DC at Michigan State, where Manalac began his coaching career as a graduate assistant.

After Narduzzi became the head coach at Pitt, Manalac joined his staff as LB coach, a job he held for five years before joining Candle’s staff for his third defensive coordinator post.

UConn men’s basketball beat Butler and Georgetown after losing to St. John’s, but it’s still not good enough, according to some Husky fans.

If you’ve been tracking the discourse after UConn’s 79-75 win over Georgetown on Saturday, the environment at games is bad, the team isn’t great enough, and a laundry list of other complaints follows.

Here at The UConn Fast Break Podcast, we refuse to give in to this negativity. This is already one of the program’s most successful seasons and part of a four-year run of excellence that UConn has never seen, if it can avoid an NCAA Tournament upset.

The assembled squad is pretty good, only two years removed from consecutive titles, during a time when everything we know about team-building is evolving.

In this episode, we spend about 45 minutes breaking down the St. John’s, Butler, and Georgetown performances and the highlights and concerns stewing on the court. Then we indulge in some commentary on the online discourse surrounding this year’s team, including attendance, fan fervor, and managing expectations.

The Huskies have $2 Beer Night vs. Creighton on Wednesday before a big road date with Villanova on Saturday. Then they host St. John’s and Seton Hall before ending the season at Marquette, and then we have the Big East Tournament. Great times ahead!

Editor’s Note: This podcast was originally scheduled to be released before the Georgetown game, but technical issues got in the way. We cut our preview of that matchup from the episode, but still ran through the highs and lows of two interesting games and ended with an early look at Villanova.
