Griffin Gets Hit Hard in Atlanta

The Nats lost their 3rd straight on Friday night in Atlanta. Mark (From Truist Park) & Al recap the 6-2 loss that drops Washington to one game below .500 with just two games remaining before Monday's Trade Deadline.

(04:00) Luis Garcia Jr. was removed from the game and that raised plenty of eyebrows as the Deadline looms. However, Garcia Jr. was pulled due to right knee soreness, not because of any trade.

(09:30) Foster Griffin had his worst outing in over two months as he allowed six runs off nine hits. This was Griffin's final start prior to the Deadline, and that situation remains very much in-flux.

(14:45) Griffin's path from Japan in 2025 to the Nationals starting rotation in 2026.

(18:00) CJ Abrams slugged his 28th homer of the season and his OPS is up to .930.

(20:00) Andres Chaparro fittingly homered to end his month of July. Chaparro's slugging percentage in the month is a staggering .912. Any chance some other team could be intrigued to trade for his bat?

(24:00) Trevor Williams handled all the bullpen innings himself as he pitched 2.2 IP. Williams has had two encouraging outings since being activated off the IL.

(27:00) It feels like these two games are "must-wins" as they would like to avoid being under .500 at the Trade Deadline.

Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
TRADE DEADLINE: Why I Think The Washington Nationals MUST Sell High On All-Star Foster Griffin

Washington Nationals face pivotal trade deadline decisions as Foster Griffin emerges as a top asset. Is this the last start we'll see from the left-handed pitcher in D.C.? Ryan Clary breaks down why selling high on Griffin could shape the Nationals’ rebuild, questioning whether ownership will invest to keep him or risk losing him for nothing. Insights focus on Griffin’s standout season stats, contract situation, and the potential fallout if Washington stands pat. Luis Garcia Jr.’s breakout performance sparks debate over his future with the Nationals. Should the team trade the lefty first baseman while his value peaks? Clary explores the pros and cons, evaluating internal options like Abi Ortiz and the challenges of balancing a buy-and-sell approach. Key topics include recent major trades, clubhouse morale, and how these looming decisions could define Washington’s trajectory in the ultra-competitive NL East.

Bats Go Cold with Runners in Scoring Position

The Nats lost 5-4 on Thursday night in Atlanta to open their eight game road trip. Mark (From Truist Park) & Al focus on the offense's inability to knock in any runner in scoring position. Washington went 0 for 9 in such instances and most of their runs came off solo homers.

(06:30) Luis Garcia Jr. and Daylen Lile teamed up to go deep three times against Braves starter Grant Holmes. Garcia ultimately fell a single short of the cycle and Lile hit two homers in the loss. Garcia is up to 23 homers, but questions remain about his status for the Trade Deadline.

(16:45) Jake Irvin returned from the IL and pitched into the 6th inning. Irvin was charged with five runs off of two homers in his first start in over two months.

(22:10) Riley Cornelio only needed nine pitches to retire the side in the bottom of the 8th.

(25:00) Mitchell Parker underwent season ending surgery to have an internal brace procedure.

(28:00) Sorting through different reports regarding Foster Griffin. Will he be traded or extended?

(34:00) Should the Nats keep Griffin and then make him a qualifying offer in the off-season? If he were to sign elsewhere as a Free Agent, then they will be offered a compensatory draft pick.

(37:00) Griffin is slated to pitch on Friday night in Atlanta as the Nationals are exactly at .500 through 110 games.

Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
BUY & SELL: Paul Toboni REVEALS The Washington Nationals Trade Deadline Plan

Washington Nationals eye a bold buy-and-sell strategy at the MLB Trade Deadline—can they upgrade for a postseason push without sacrificing the future? Ryan Clary breaks down Paul Toboni's candid interview, where the Nationals' President of Baseball Operations reveals plans to simultaneously pursue upgrades and build for tomorrow. Hot topics include Foster Griffin’s status as a top trade chip, Luis Garcia Jr.’s breakout season and trade value, and the front office’s approach to retooling around stars like CJ Abrams. Key discussions spotlight the Nationals’ MLB-leading offense, potential bullpen targets like Jeff Hoffman and Tyler Rogers, and the tough decisions facing Toboni’s regime on expiring contracts and inherited players. Can the Nationals thread the needle between contending now and long-term growth?

Nats Drop the Rubber Match

The Nats fell 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon to lose the series with the visiting Blue Jays. Mark & Al convene after the Nationals missed an opportunity to gain ground in the standings while facing a below .500 team. They conclude their homestand at 3-3 and are headed to a pivotal eight game road trip in Atlanta & Philadelphia.

(06:00) Do the win and losses this week affect Paul Toboni's approach at the Trade Deadline?

(08:00) Washington only scored one run in the bottom of the 8th and it was a major missed opportunity. James Wood led-off with a double, Luis Garcia Jr. immediately singled him home, but that was it for the rally.

(10:30) Why did Jacob Young lay down a bunt in the top of the 7th?

(17:00) Five relievers took the mound on Wednesday after Zack Littell lasted 4.2 IP. Paxton Schultz allowed three runs in the top of the 8th and was sent down to AAA following the defeat. Jake Irvin is expected to take his roster spot and pitch on Thursday in Atlanta after returning from the IL (shoulder).

(21:00) Trevor Williams pitched the final four outs and it was first time he appeared in the majors in over a year. Williams is expected to be a reliever on the staff this season instead of acting as a starter.

(26:00) What are the chances Littell is traded ahead of the deadline? This would be similar to when Jon Lester was flipped for Lane Thomas in the summer of 2021. Littell's ERA is currently below the 5.00 threshold (4.94).

Washington Nationals face a pivotal turning point as Curtis Mead’s out as their consistent right-handed power bat—can Brady House step up and fill the void? Ryan Clary explores how the arrival of pitching talent Connelly Early reshape the Nationals’ lineup and postseason hopes, just as the team inches closer to wildcard contention. Key topics include Brady House’s development, his potential new role at first base, and the tactical implications for the Nationals’ offense heading into the trade deadline. Clary also breaks down Dylan Crews’ resurgent power surge, the Nationals’ thrilling 8–6 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, and what these changes mean for the upcoming matchup at Nationals Park.

Nats Triumphantly Draw 6 Walks in the 1st

The Nats beat visiting Toronto 8-6 on Tuesday night to even the series. Al & Tim dig into Washington tying a franchise mark with six walks drawn in the bottom of the 1st. It was a nightmare outing for Shane Bieber; who issued three RBI walks along the way.

(08:10) Luis Garcia Jr. slugged his 22nd homer of the season off of a lefty. Garcia Jr. is a Free Agent after the 2027 season and therefore he is very much a candidate to be dealt away before this Trade Deadline.

(14:30) Dylan Crews followed up Garcia's blast with his own in order to go Back-to-Back in the 4th. Crews has been playing better lately and his OPS is currently at .706.

(17:00) Cade Cavalli lasted six innings and earned the win despite not having his "Best stuff" according to Blake Butera. Cavalli is in the midst of a hot stretch and his ERA is down to 3.55 for the season. Is Cavalli the team's Ace or is it Foster Griffin?

(25:00) Trevor Williams is taking Gus Varland's roster spot and is expected to join the bullpen. Williams hasn't pitched in the majors in over a year as he has been recovering from internal brace surgery.

(29:00) Arizona outlasted Pittsburgh on Tuesday night to move one game ahead of both the Nats & Pirates. Zack Littell will take the mound on Wednesday as Washington is two games above .500.

EXPECTATIONS: The Washington Nationals Have A Great Pitcher In Connelly Early BUT Not An Ace

Washington Nationals fans are buzzing as Connelly Early joins the rotation, but is he truly the future ace or more of a dependable middle-of-the-rotation arm? Ryan Clary unpacks Early’s arsenal, highlighting his underused but dominant sweeper and urging realistic expectations compared to stars like Max Scherzer. The Nationals’ roster strategy intensifies with Brady House taking reps at first base—does this hint at a Luis Garcia Jr. trade, especially with Garcia experiencing a career offensive year as the deadline approaches? Clary breaks down how these moves could reshape Washington’s infield and pitching staff while analyzing trade market scenarios that balance power bats and much-needed arms. The episode also spotlights Max Scherzer’s emotional return to Nationals Park on his 42nd birthday and the crowd’s standing ovation, underscoring his lasting legacy.

Scherzer Starts the Blue Jays Win

The Nats lost 3-2 to Toronto on Monday night to begin the three game series in Navy Yard. Al & Mark focus on the familiar Blue Jays starting pitcher, Max Scherzer, who was returning from the IL (back). Scherzer tossed 75 pitches and was pulled in the 3rd inning amid a standing ovation.

(12:00) Will Scherzer go into the Hall of Fame with a Nats hat on his plaque?

(17:00) The offense struggled against Toronto's stout bullpen. Andres Chaparro's 5th inning solo homer was the only run that the Nats mustered against that unit.

(23:30) Eddie Yean served as the Opener and pitched into the top of the 3rd. Yean only needed 11 pitches to get through the first two innings, but then allowed two Blue Jay runs.

(25:30) Alvarez took the ball from Yean and then was sent down to AAA following the loss. Will Jake Irvin take his spot in the rotation?

(34:00) The Pirates and Diamondbacks are playing each other this week in Pittsburgh. The Pirates won 3-2 in extras on Monday night to even Arizona for the final wild card spot. Washington is just a game back in the standings of these two teams.

The Nationals Changed Everything | CJ Abrams Is The Face Of The Franchise

The Washington Nationals are no longer just a rebuilding team. They are a contender fighting for a playoff spot, and after proving they could thrive without Curtis Mead, the conversation around this franchise has completely changed.
On this episode of the Nats Minutecast, we break down why the Nationals have developed the “it” factor, how a 10-run offensive explosion showed this lineup has depth, and why Paul Toboni’s trade deadline decisions could shape the next five years of Nationals baseball.
We discuss:
Why the Nationals proved they are bigger than one player after trading Curtis Mead
How CJ Abrams has transformed into a franchise cornerstone and why trading him should be off the table
Why James Wood, CJ Abrams, and this young lineup are forcing the front office to think differently
The pressure on Paul Toboni to improve the roster while protecting the clubhouse chemistry
Whether Foster Griffin should be moved or become part of a surprise playoff push
The Nationals are one game away from the postseason picture, and the biggest question is no longer whether they are rebuilding.
The question is simple:
Are the Nationals ready to go for it?
BLOCKBUSTER: Washington Nationals Land Connelly Early, TRADE Curtis Mead, Future STUD Arrives

Washington Nationals shake up their rotation, landing lefty Connelly Early in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox while sending Curtis Mead north. Can Early become the steady force Washington needs for a playoff push, or will the loss of Mead’s power prove costly? Ryan Clary spotlights Early’s six-pitch arsenal, years of team control, and why this move could anchor the Nats’ starting staff for seasons. Key storylines include Foster Griffin’s likely departure after contract talks stall, with Andrew Painter emerging as a bold potential return from the Phillies. Ryan Clary breaks down CJ Abrams’ record-breaking streak, James Wood’s growing superstardom, and the Nationals’ MLB-leading offense. With Max Scherzer possibly making his Nationals Park farewell and a high-stakes series against the Toronto Blue Jays looming, the postseason pressure is mounting in Washington.
(38:00) Max Scherzer is returning from the IL on Monday and will take the mound at Nationals Park for the visiting Blue Jays on his 42nd birthday. Scherzer has had a rough season as he has a 10.23 ERA in six starts.

Nationals Trade Deadline Shocker: Curtis Mead Traded, Foster Griffin's Future in Doubt

The Washington Nationals are making major moves as the MLB Trade Deadline approaches, and the future of the franchise is coming into focus.
On this episode of Nats Minutecast, Dan Holmi breaks down the Nationals' blockbuster trade of Curtis Mead to the Boston Red Sox for left-handed pitcher Connelly Early, why President of Baseball Operations Paul Toboni believes the deal helps Washington both now and in the future, and what it means for the team's surprising playoff push.
Plus, new reports reveal Foster Griffin extension talks have reportedly stalled, raising questions about whether the All-Star left-hander could be the next major Nationals trade chip before the deadline.
The Nationals also responded on the field, crushing the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-7 behind huge performances from CJ Abrams and James Wood, who combined for four home runs. With Washington now just one game out of the National League Wild Card race, the deadline decisions have never mattered more.

Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
