  • Unsurprisingly, @charlieo_conn pretty succinctly summarized this all last night as well.
In a vacuum, mostly standing pat at the deadline made sense for Chuck Fletcher & the Flyers. But following an inactive offseason & a mess of a 2020-21 season, he now has immense pressure on himself to have a massive summer. There's really no other choice. https://t.co/ixAlCH69pS

  • Yep! And, to their limited credit, they seem to understand all of this and they might be able to fix it. That said, last summer they had a choice - "overpay" or stand pat. Because things went wrong, now they don't have a choice and their backs are against the wall.
That’s the thing he tried to fix the 1RHD hole and prices were deemed to high. He gambled the team could hold it together enough until the deadline. Didn’t happen. Gus wasn’t a replacement he was a reasonable gamble on skill to keep or flip and that did not work in the slightest. https://t.co/Iwi3S495tc

  • That's not to excuse Fletcher. He knew the defense was a problem, tried to fix it in October, and decided the right deal wasn't there and that he'd wait until the deadline. The risk of that was obvious at the time, and he now has no choice but to make *some* deal this offseason.

  • Granted, at no point did I think it would go *this* wrong. For example: no, I did not think the Flyers would have the worst team save percentage of the cap era. That's the thing -- the questions were valid ones, but every answer has been the absolute worst case scenario.

  • Bit of revisionist history out there this morning, I see. I can't speak for everyone, and I was cautiously optimistic/pretty sure the Flyers were at least "good", but it was reasonably clear in October how this could all go wrong: https://t.co/KQCD4ptcT2

  • (On Sunday afternoon when they mentioned the Hockey Fights Cancer promo on air the camera was glued to Lindblom the entire time and it made me uncomfortable)
sure, a maybe Glen. Maybe this is correct. If i'm Lindblom do I always want my name associated with cancer? Maybe, maybe not! https://t.co/pmjktQRnVl
