  • The biggest salary labor issue is that teams have a 6-7 year timer they have control over starting, of which 3-4 years will be at a salary of the team’s choosing and the rest are at arbitration. This greatly suppressed the earning power of a player during their career
@Matt_Winkelman What structures are you referring to?

  • I don’t want a strike in baseball, but I do want to see the structures of salary suppression torn down, I don’t think we get one without the other

  • The Mariners are totally going to hold him down long enough to steal a year of free agency from him
Dipoto said they'll look to bring in a veteran shortstop to spring training that can serve as a stopgap if JP Crawford doesn't make the opening day roster.

  • Three years feels like a lot given his age, but Happ has been relatively durable, he has been good, and his velocity has been pretty stable for 5 years now with essentially no decline. The 3rd year probably buys a discount on actual price of first 2
The #Phillies have had ongoing dialogue with LHP J.A. Happ over the last several days, according to sources. The Phillies have a long shopping list. But Happ appears to be their best fit, as a LH with experience in Philadelphia who won't require a long deal. Still seeking 3 years
