  • Baltimore's own Bruce Zimmermann is a way under-the-radar pitcher who intrigues me as well. Don't make the mistake of thinking this is the same old Orioles pitching development that underwhelmed us with Bundy, Gausman, Matusz, et al. Pitching coach Chris Holt is a rising star.
#Orioles Bruze Zimmermann has a very similar mix to John Means, and is having success first time through the order. I imagine that if he can utilize his mix in a better sequence, and use any pitch in any count. We will see a guy that can neutralize RHB as well as he can vs. LHB

  • Astros rookie OF Chas McCormick draws the start today. ✅ in Coors Field ✅ versus LH starter Austin Gomber ✅ batting first in the order I can't be the only one excited about this development, can I?

  • Albuquerque will always see a lot of runs at Isotopes Park. It's a function of altitude, elevation and more advanced, physical hitters High-A and Double-A for the Rockies now favor pitchers Low-A Fresno is worth watching now that it will once again use the minor league ball.

  • Home park run percentiles among all minor league clubs in 2019: Low-A Old: Asheville 93% New: Fresno 94% (with MLB ball) High-A Old: Lancaster 97% New: Spokane 33% Double-A Hartford 43% Triple-A Albuquerque 99%

  • One player development factor that will be fascinating to watch this season is how Rockies prospects perform at the system's reorganized affiliates. Colorado's system used to be chock full of hitter's parks, but that's not uniformly true anymore.

  • Seeing this kind of straightaway power from 25-year-old Justin Williams is eye-opening for dynasty players Williams ranks 17th in barrel rate and 29th with a 98.2 average EV on FB/LD. Both at the 25 batted ball threshold Caveat: the Nationals have an MLB-worst 77 ERA+

  • Giants OF Austin Slater stole a base tonight. He is beginning to heat up with regular playing time after a slow start. In his last 8 G: .393 OBP, .500 SLG, 1 SB, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 6/8 BB/SO @Mike_Kurland was all over Slater this spring. Snap him up if you need an OF4 or OF5.

  • RT @joe_sheehan: From a June 27, 2018 Newsletter: "MLB is teetering on the edge of Deadball III, and the only thing keeping the game out of the abyss is the long ball." ...and... "we’re one small, uncontrolled, unanticipated change to the baseballs from a complete offensive collapse."

  • Let's obsess about small samples! I tweeted my early season LOSS leaders among hitters late last night. I am speculating on a few of these hitters on my, ahem, less accomplished fantasy rosters. Crossing my fingers that Raley, McCormick and Brown come into more playing time.
Let's obsess over small samples. Surprising hitters with high Statcast barrel rates, min 10 batted balls 7. Kyle Higashioka 23. Jordan Luplow 24. Luke Raley 30. Chas McCormick 37. Seth Brown 46. Ramon Urias 59. Dom Nuñez 62. Josh VanMeter 91. Jose Marmolejos 108. Adolis Garcia
