  • Yes, players can exercise their option whenever they want, the deadline for it is usually defined, and its to force a decision. And Yes, an opt-in and trade is allowed, because its not a new agreement, its simply accepting terms of an existing agreement.
Quick question @stevekylerNBA If a player like “James Johnson” has a player option for this season , can he agree with the team to opt in so he can be traded on draft night ? Or does he have to wait until after the draft to opt in .. please answer real quick 🙏🏾

  • You can not sign and trade from a team you go to as a free agent... sign and trade is only possible from your current team to your new team.
@stevekylerNBA What if Derozan Opts out of SA.. and does a sign and trade with the Pistons (26mil) to the Lakers for matching saleriers ( Kuzma Cook Mcgee Green )

  • To recap -- it will not be remotely a normal offseason because not everyone will be aligned for the same reasons.
@stevekylerNBA To recap - all outcomes are possible.

  • No, its a pretty serious thing... I remain optimistic a deal will be reached, because both sides seem like they want to reach one. Fighting at this point could kill any gains.
@stevekylerNBA So you make it sound like there will be no basketball. I guess that is a real possibility. Or are you just over dramatizing this for discussions sake?

  • Most likely, which is why many don't think a deal can be reached by escrow alone, another factor is we may not have 82 games either.
@thereelBStein @stevekylerNBA That escrow money is gone for the players.

  • Yep... some teams will have no appetite to spend... some will want to cut... some will buy in this environment.
@stevekylerNBA @EricPincus I think it’s important for fans to understand next season’s cap will be a contrivance; that’s not bad under the circumstances, but it’s going to impact team behavior in different ways.

  • On the initial comment - the problem with agreeing to a bigger escrow, is no one knows when fans come back, so player may never see that money. The question becomes would a tiered Escrow work, where players making the most contribute the more? Would the top 50 earners agree?
@stevekylerNBA This is the most interesting to me, because as terrible as losing a few million would be for the superstar contracts, it seems like it would affect those minimum contract guys much worse. Any chance they try to rip up/redo the CBA? After getting back to games, is that allowed?
