The Chicago Bears have filled two of the four vacant positions on their offensive coaching staff so far. Shane Waldron took over as offensive coordinator, replacing Luke Getsy. Kerry Joseph joined him as the new quarterbacks coach a few days later. The two worked together in Seattle. Now, the Bears must find a new wide receivers coach and running backs coach. After Sanjay Lal withdrew his name for the receivers job, the Bears seemed to have pivoted to a new target. One that brings quite a resume.

Connor Hughes of SNYtv revealed that veteran receivers coach Rob Moore will interview with the team for that same job. Moore is a former two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver who played in the 1990s and early 2000s. He is known best for his excellent run with the Arizona Cardinals between 1995 and 1998, helping them make the playoffs in the final year of that stretch. He broke into the NFL as a receivers coach in 2013 with the Buffalo Bills. Since then, he’s had a direct hand in developing some outstanding future stars.

  • Sammy Watkins
  • Robert Woods
  • Amari Cooper
  • Corey Davis
  • A.J. Brown

The Chicago Bears have a sharp eye with this one.

Moore not only played the position at a high level but also clearly has a knack for teaching it. That is often a transition many can never make. It’s why so many Hall of Famers flame out as coaches. Moore seems different. He has a sharp eye for the position. Four receivers drafted during his time with various teams since 2013 have either won a Super Bowl (Woods and Watkins) or made multiple Pro Bowlers (Cooper and Brown). Developing young receivers has been a constant problem for the Bears going back years. Adding somebody like Moore would be a great help.

Whether they can lure him in is the hard part. He was drafted by the Jets in the 1st round back in the 1990s. Returning there to coach the receivers might be too appealing to pass up, especially if Aaron Rodgers returns healthy. Still, the Chicago Bears have demonstrated an ability to recruit well. They value strong teachers and that is something Moore does best. He would be an immediate asset to Tyler Scott and whoever the Bears end up drafting this April.
