Sample size is smaller because he was in KHL for 5 years, but since start of 2011-12, Kovalchuk is 19-for-27 (70.4%) in shootout, including 6-for-7 (85.7%) since returning to the NHL to start 2018-19. Oshie leads active players (at least 25 attempts) with 51.8% conversion rate.
The Capitals haven't had a shootout since Nov. 23, so who knows if they'll have any their final 20 games? But if they do, they'd have a heck of 1-2 punch in Oshie and Kovalchuk, who famously went head to head in Socchi in 2014.
My long-held belief Mangiapane will get 20 this year is shaping up as his two tonight give him 15. His strong play of late takes some of the pressure off Treliving to make a trade of significance. If the prices are deemed too high, no one would complain if he remains on 2nd line
That was a can’t-lose game for Calgary. 4-2 win in Detroit as they finish pre-deadline schedule at 32-25-6, anything but pretty. Still have no clue what they’re going to do ahead of tomorrow’s 1 pm deadline. #Flames 14-4-1 in their last 19 road games.

Kovalchuk wears No. 17 to honor Russian legend Valeri Kharlamov, who was his father's favorite player and died along with his wife in an auto accident in 1981. (Malkin wears No. 71 because of Kharlamov, too.)
No. 17 has been vacant for a while for the Capitals, so Ilya Kovalchuk won't have to give up anything this time to get his number.
#Flames won't face Athanasiou or Green tonight in Detroit ...
Mikael Backlund has been absolutely outstanding for the #Flames in February: he has 6 goals in his last 6 games and he has points in 7 of his last 8 skates, has had multi-point efforts in 4 of his last 8, and has 11 points over that 8-game stretch.
