Personally, I think Donnie Tyndall was hosed and should have gotten way more time at Tennessee. Also, Rick Ray had a math degree!
Something people are forgetting in all the Mike White discussion: the SEC has VASTLY improved since he arrived. Other programs have added tons of proven head coaches with loads of experience. Two of whom we saw the last two games in Barnes and Howland.
A lot of history, perspective, and truth in this thread. You might wanna read it.
Brutal loss for the Gators tonight, obviously. A few thoughts on it. I'm sure folks will disagree. That's cool. Opinions are good, mostly. First, Florida's adjustment offensively to high-ball screens has helped the offense. It's been better- but bar was low.
Back & forth all night but we fell on the road to @HailStateMBK. Allen with 17 pts | 4-4 FT Nembhard with 13 pts | 8 assists Locke with 12 pts | 3-4 FT Johnson's with 11 pts | 4 rebounds | 3 steals Back on the court Saturday! #GatorsHoop
I'll let you go figure out when Stone committed on your own. Hudson was widely seen as a massive coup for White when he committed, and for the entirety of last year. It's this senior year that is baffling.
I think Allen has improved in various ways. He has been notably more consistent of late. Hayes has rounded into a very good defender (brain farts like tonight's last bucket aside), but is what he is offensively. Chiozza also improved quite a lot year-over-year, lest we forget.
I mean: Hudson and Stone were better (much better) under these same coaches a year ago. And it defies all logic to think coaches are intentionally making them worse, especially as other players HAVE improved. Sometimes, players underperforming is on players.
A bit of perspective: - Men's team is having what might be just its second season without 20 wins since 1997-98 - Women's team is in Year 2 of a full program rebuild and just rallied to beat a really good team in stirring fashion Dark places are relative.
Yeah, uh, about that: Stone is actually worse? He has not made a shot in SEC play.
There's a lot going wrong for the #Gators. Mike White deserves some blame but not all. His best player, as Andy says below, is "unplayable." Does not contribute. That's a massive blow to a team short on scoring talent to start.
Tonight, Jalen Hudson took eight shots in 10 minutes ... and made one. He's just unplayable right now.
Florida basketball is finding ways to lose games. Offense, defense, doesn't matter. Nembhard (1/8 3PT in the game) took two threes on the final two possessions (not counting Allen's rushed three to end the game). #Gators
