AV: "I liked the effort from [Hayes'] line. I expect more and more will come as their timing gets better. They spent a lot of time in the offensive zone and didn’t get probably as much as they would have liked. But their time spent in the offensive zone was good."
AV on Zamula: "I see that there’s a young kid there that’s got good mobility and can make good plays with the puck. Tonight, against an NHL opponent, I really liked his poise and his demeanor on the ice. I thought stick-wise and mobility-wise, he did a lot of good things."
AV on Farabee: " I think everyone can see the skillset. I didn’t think he was as good tonight as what I’ve seen, but some of that comes from the opposition. They did some good things. I like that kid: his skill level, that he can play in tight. We got a good young player there."
Chris Stewart: "I think [physicality] is important but at the end of the day they don’t ask me what I think. ...You can’t just fight, you can’t just be physical, you have to chip in offensively too. You’ve got to forecheck, you’ve got to backcheck. It’s a 200 foot game."
Brian Elliott: "The first period was a little bit shaky. No one was really talking to anybody, or was quite sure where to go with the puck. That's to be expected at this point. It's something we'll work on and practice and the games to come."
AV: "What you saw from Justin Braun tonight, I think you'll see throughout the season. Consistent. The heaviness. Covering the rush, his gaps are good. He's always got his stick -- or something -- in the way of the opposition."
Hays: "New teams, new players, new coaches. You can play as many games as you want in the summer and training camp, but nothing really emulates that. I think there was a total of 6 or 7 shots that actually hit the net for both teams in the first period there."
AV: "There was mental awareness of what they were trying to do. As you're trying to learn a system, it's like driving your car. You know when to press brake, and when to press gas. System wise it's the same thing. You see what's there and you know what you've got to do."
