My 43-year newspaper career officially ends today. It’s been an incredible run, especially the last 28 at the Florida Times-Union. So many great memories & colleagues, having worked as a sports editor and then specialty publications director. I’ve been truly blessed. @jaxdotcom
Saturday Knights Playback this week is the 2018 @UCF_Football win at Memphis. @coachjoshheupel made a call on 4th and 1 and the rest is history. Listen Saturday at 2p on 96.9FM/740AM/@iHeartRadio(search 96.9 The Game)
Has the NCAA asked Congress for a “national standard” and “guardrails” on coaches’ salaries? No. Facilities spending? No. Recruiting spending? No. Media rights deals? No. Athlete safety? No. Just LIMITS ON ATHLETES’ ECONOMIC RIGHTS. Embarrassing.
This is embarrassing for the NCAA. This is not asking for a “national standard.” This is asking Congress to provide the NCAA an antitrust exemption to continue its cartel behavior, limiting the economic rights of athletes and nobody else.
Good grief. How slow and ineffective is the NCAA legislative process that you ask Congress to do YOUR JOB? The NCAA will never allow NIL rights for players. The NCAA just wants an antitrust exemption to continue the cartel.
Power 5 conferences are now asking Congress to bypass NCAA & move to give college athletes rights to earn $ from name, image, likeness. Nice to see some autonomy. However, not holding breath on federal action. Glad to see Florida has applied big pressure. https://t.co/DzbwknLbxl
I respectfully differ with my colleague. Performers, whether athlete, musician or dancer, are not required to perform during a pandemic because essential employees work. That is a false equivalence. Any performer making such a decision is neither entitled, spoiled nor a brat.
Saturday Knights Playback returns this week. “Fourth and One”...We go back to Oct 2018 when @UCF_Football traveled to Memphis. Down double digits. Rain on the way. And a huge second half for a memorable win. Listen Saturday at 2p on 96.9FM/740AM/@iHeartRadio(search 96.9 The Game)
