Is Steve Forbes (and his win-now philosophy) the right answer for UNLV’s coaching search? PROS ? Instant winner everywhere ? Exciting defense ? Accelerated roster construction CONS ? NCAA infractions ? Low profile https://t.co/vO5sDF1xZf
UNLV doesn’t even have a coach and can still land top 100 recruits!
UNLV makes the final eight for 2020 power forward Isaiah Cottrell, per his Twitter page. Cottrell, a Vegas native, is a four-star that stands at 6-8/200.
Here's DRF's full quote on "Jon Gruden." I don't think she was talking about the next coach being a superstar-level recognizable name. I think she meant to convey that UNLV mbb coach is still a hugely visible position here and that she wants to find someone who embraces that. IMO
UNLV: Smarter than Cal
UNLV won’t move on Jason Kidd, but source told @Stadium that Kidd will be among Cal’s top targets. Former star point guard at the school. But will be interesting to see if Kidd will wait and see if he can get Lakers job when it opens.
RT @BradPowers7: My yearly rant on the Sunday 2nd Round NCAA Tournament TV schedule: I just simply don't understand running 6 straight hours of single-game action in the afternoon and then have have two games tip after 8:30pm ET on a work night. Can someone explain this to me? https://t.co/2rKJ48c3Ii

We'll find out soon enough. Their track record is... not great.
Interesting take as usual from Mike. Fair question: If she won’t even talk to Pitino (?) how could she hire a coach who got caught lying to the NCAA re: violations under Bruce Pearl (!) and was given a one-year show cause?
I had Steve Forbes pretty far down my initial list. I viewed his recruiting style as a bug, but now it’s starting to look like a feature. If DRF gets stuck, she could turn to Forbes and he’d come in and win 20+ games next year, and every year after that. https://t.co/vO5sDF1xZf https://t.co/Bv04okKBHx
Great point. I didn’t even make the DRF-Forbes-Tennessee connection in the story. Forest through the trees ??♀️
Much like Marvin at NMSU, Forbes and his supporters have been pushing his name hard for jobs for a couple offseasons now. Seems destined to get one soon. Also, DFR was oversaw hoops at Tennessee when he was given his show cause. She knows details & may not see them as an issue. https://t.co/D8DaoaCJtp

After a week of doing my own search committee research, here’s the list of candidates (real and imagined) I would present to UNLV: 1. Rick Pitino 2. Nate Oats 3. Mike Rhoades 4. Thad Matta 5. Steve Alford 6. Mike Miller 7. Kyle Smith 8. Kenny Payne 9. Steve Forbes 10. Jason Kidd
?There is that name again. P----- Doesn't warrant even a call? Really?
Are fans really going to pay to watch a coach walk around on the sideline? Pitino is the only guy who could do that. My opinion, just worry about winning at a high level and trust that will revive ticket sales.
